Louis Van Gaal wanted to rebuild Manchester United with two major pieces, but Thomas Muller and Marco Reus had other plans.

Who could blame Van Gaal for trying to lure two of the best players in the world to his club. Unfortunately for him and the millions of Man United fans worldwide, the German stars had other plans. 

It was Van Gaal who gave Muller his first start for Bayern Munich when the Dutchman coached the Bavarian giants. But leaving Bayern for any club wasn't an option for Muller. 

“I knew that I would have earned more money," said Muller in an interview with Sport Bild, via Yahoo Eurosport. 

“The sums from other clubs which circulated had been astronomical. I can just say: a transfer for me was never an option. FC Bayern is my club.”

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo shot down rumours of Reus joining his club, with the Borussia Dortmund midfielder linked to a move to Arsenal, Manchester United, and the defending La Liga champions.

"I don’t know where the Marco Reus rumour came from. It’s a player who, at this time, is impossible to us," Cerezo said.

"Look, he had an offer for a lot of money from Manchester United and he has not gone… we will not sign him with a lesser offer."
